Get Involved in Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month – We Dare You!

By: Cass Isidro, MBA, President & CEO, Amputee Coalition

Perhaps this will be your first time participating in Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month or maybe you’ve been spreading awareness for many years. Regardless of your connection to the community, we all have a part to play in increasing awareness and April is the month to make the greatest impact!

This year we are united by our theme, “Inspire to Elevate,” which celebrates the way our community members uplift and encourage others on their journey to thrive. There are an infinite number of ways to do this and because every story is unique, we want to hear them all–but we need your help!

As part of our LLLDAM campaign, we’ve compiled a list of 30 inspirational daily dares, one for every day of the month.

These dares run the gamut, enabling participants to spread awareness in a variety of ways and ensuring there’s an avenue for expression everyone can feel comfortable with. While you don’t have to do them in any particular order, we do challenge you to complete as many as you can throughout the month. Don’t hold back–we dare you!

Whether you are interested in getting involved in advocacy, hosting a fundraiser, or simply sharing your story with others, we want to help you Inspire to Elevate in your own way. Check out a sampling of the daily dares below.

  1. Wear Orange on Wednesdays – How much orange can you wear on Wednesday in April? Post your W.O.W. photos using hashtags #LLLDAM #LLAM.
  2. #WeThrive – Share with your friends, family, and community the importance of raising awareness about limb loss and limb difference, and how you THRIVE with your limb loss or limb difference.
  3. Elevate Youth Living With Limb Loss and Limb Difference – Do you know a young person from 10-17 looking for life skills resources, education and training, youth camp, workforce development, and mentorship? Let them know about the new Youth Engagement Program.
  4. Communicate with Words – Share a poem, essay, sentence, article, song lyric, or any written words that help you be strong and/or paint a picture of what it is like to live with, or care for, someone living with limb loss or limb difference.

Not fully convinced yet? Check out the full list of LLLDAM daily dares. Go ahead and click, we dare you.

Also, we encourage you to utilize our Communications Toolkit to help you complete some of the dares. This helpful resource includes downloadable brand assets that can be printed to distribute at your next appointment, as well as social media starter posts and cover images.

Beginning on April 5, educational webinars will be held virtually throughout the month. These free webinars will cover a variety of topics relevant to our community including advocacy and workforce development.

Partner with us this April as we spread awareness and help promote greater understanding of the limb loss and limb difference population.
