Introduction
If you just embarked on the journey as a pharmacist in hospital, below are few books that I think you might find very useful. The books are arranged in alphabetical order.

ACCP Updates in Therapeutics, 2023
As stated in the official website, Updates in Therapeutics®: Pharmacotherapy Preparatory Review and Recertification Course is ideal for pharmacy professionals who are preparing for the Pharmacotherapy Specialty Certification Examination administered by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) and for those seeking a self-paced review and refresher of disease states and therapeutics.
- The Updates in Therapeutics® is updated annually by American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and is not cheap.
- There are also other specialty certification examination preparation material, such as ambulatory care, cardiology pharmacy, critical care pharmacy, emergency medicine pharmacy, geriatric pharmacy, infectious diseases pharmacy, oncology pharmacy and paediatric pharmacy.
However, if you are working at Malaysia (especially government facilities), there is few reminders that I would like to highlight:
- The restricted access to newly available or high-cost drugs, such as eskatamine nasal spray.
- The drugs available at Malaysia is not available at US drug market and hence would not be covered in this book, such as benserazide/ levodopa combination (Madopar) in Parkinson disease and gliclazide in diabetes management.
- The management guidelines may not be in line with Malaysia Clinical Practice Guideline, such as empirical choice of antibiotic may be different due to difference in local antimicrobial drug susceptibility data or dyslipidaemia treatment target.
- The laboratory values are not in S.I. units, so you would need some mental conversion.

Although there are many pharmacology textbooks on the market, Rang and Dale's Pharmacology remains the reference that I use most of the time.
- This partly because it is the recommended textbook in my university syllabus.
New in this edition, it has been updated to include important new drugs such as gene therapies, personalised medicines and the new wave of RNA drugs.
- In other words, medical field has certainly evolved over time and it is essential for us to have continuous professional education.
